Tips for Working From Home During Summer Break (2023)

Working from home can be both a privilege and a pain, especially during the summer months when kids are home from school. Whether it’s that you work remotely full-time, or part-time, you may find it difficult to stay focused. While it might not seem possible to balance both kids and work during the week, there are ways to improve productivity while keeping the family occupied.

Set a Schedule

A great place to start would be to lay down some boundaries with a weekly schedule. If your kids are old enough, explain to them that there are certain points throughout the day that need to be reserved for work. You can set aside time to have lunch together, play outside, or anything else you can think of to break up the work day. 8 hours is a lengthy amount of time for a child to sit still, so do your best to find windows of time to keep them busy. This way, your kids will understand that you need to prioritize work but will have parts of the day to look forward to.

Summer Camps

During the summer months, there are numerous summer camps available for a variety of ages. While it may not be the cheapest entertainment option, summer camps are great for teaching kids new skills, making friends, or getting some exercise. Taking advantage of camps will allow you to be proactive at work without feeling guilty. Summer camps are fun and can give your child amazing summer memories. Summer boredom is impossible when your child participates in daily activities, or overnight camp adventures.

Hire an At-Home Sitter

Family friend, child professional, or bored teenager, hiring an at-home sitter could be for you. You may not feel comfortable dropping your kids off at a camp or don’t trust yourself to stay focused if they stay home. In this situation, hire a sitter that can come to your home to watch and entertain your kiddos. This way, you’ll be able to check in on the kids when you have a free moment, as well as being there in case of emergencies. It is nice to have a trusted babysitter available so that you can stay on task, and your children stay busy.

Working from home can be a great option, but can be harder to stay productive with kids around. Find what suits your needs this summer while giving your kids one to remember.
