Bake together
You may not be able to take the kids out for frozen yogurt, but who says you can’t create a bunch of yummy treats from home? There’s no better day to stay in and bake than a rainy day! With your children’s assistance, whip up some of their favorite treats—brownies, cookies, cakes, and more. They may be too young to assist with the stove or oven, but they can certainly help gather, measure, and mix ingredients.
Build forts and watch movies
There’s nothing cozier on a rainy day than watching movies from the comfort of your living room. Make it fun by building forts! Assemble your fort with some chairs (for support) and a big sheet. Pop some popcorn and gather your favorite blankets and pillows. Turn on your favorite family-friendly movie and enjoy an afternoon in!
Send them on an indoor scavenger hunt
Have active children who get a little antsy when they don’t get enough physical activity? Get moving with an indoor scavenger hunt! Create a list of items for them to search for around the house. Start with items they can find with ease (ex: a TV remote, a sock, a hair tie, etc). Then, mix in a few more challenging items—think specific shapes and colors (ex: a purple item, a round item, etc)!
Parent hack: lost your keys or phone recently? Add it to their list and put those kids to work! Sometimes you just need an extra set of eyes.
