Summer Fun Checklist

The 2020-2021 school year is coming to a close and the kids are ready for summer break! In all the excitement that comes with summer break, it can be easy to forget the essentials when you’re packing your day bag for summer outings and road trips. No worries — The Kangaroo Forest has created a checklist for your reference:

Water

In this sweltering summer heat, water is a necessity for any day trip or outing — you must stay hydrated! We recommend keeping a package of water bottles in the trunk of your car for easy access. You may also want to carry a few refillable water bottles, as you can typically carry greater amounts of water in these and keep your drink cooler for longer.

Sunscreen

Don’t let this summer sun win — be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen in your day bag if you plan to spend time outside! According to AAD, dermatologists recommend sunscreens with an SPF of at least 30; the higher the SPF, the better. It is important to use sunscreen on both your body and face for optimal protection.

Hats and sunglasses

Around midday, the sun has made its way to the center of the sky and can be blinding! Be sure to include some hats and sunglasses in your day bag to make that midday heat a little more bearable.

Cooler with snacks

If you plan to be out for more than a couple of hours, we recommend packing a cooler with some of your children’s favorite snacks and drinks. Whether it’s ice cream or cubed fruit, a chilled snack will be refreshing and give your kids the energy boost they need to make it through the day. Need something a little more filling? Pack a few sandwiches for lunch at the park.

Picnic blanket

Tired of walking and want to take a quick snack or lunch break? Bring a blanket and have a picnic at your local park. This will give you and the kids time to cool off — and once the kids have eaten, they can play on the playground for a bit.

Swimsuits

After walking around or playing in the heat all day, your kids will be begging to swing by the pool or splash pad. Pack a few swimsuits (and towels, of course), so you’re prepared for a mid-afternoon swim. We recommend also bringing a few plastic bags that you can place wet swimsuits in once you leave the pool.
