3 Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Here are 3 fun Valentine’s Day crafts your child and their classmates will love:

The classic valentine

Who needs store-bought valentines when you can make your own? Homemade valentines are unique and personable — your child’s classmates will love their homemade valentines! To make these, you will need these materials:

  • Copy or construction paper

  • A pencil

  • Markers, crayons, and colored pencils

  • Stickers

  • Scissors

  • Glue

To begin, take a piece of construction paper and have your child use a pencil to trace a heart (of any size) onto the paper. Next, help your child cut the heart out. Using markers or crayons, your child can write a note or message on the heart. They can then decorate the valentine as they please, using more construction paper, markers, and stickers.

Valentine’s themed bookmarks

Valentine’s themed bookmarks are the perfect gift for the reader in your life — and the kids will love decorating these! For this craft, you will need:

  • Copy or construction paper

  • Markers, crayons, and colored pencils

  • Scissors

  • Ribbon

  • A hole punch

Take a sheet of copy or construction paper and turn it horizontally. Help your child cut the sheet of paper into bookmark sized strips. For each strip of paper, cut a three inch piece of ribbon. Next, punch a hole in the top of each strip. Take one of the bookmarks and looped a piece of ribbon through the hole at the top of the bookmark, tying the ribbon into place. Repeat this step for each bookmark. Now, allow your child to decorate the bookmarks as they please, using construction paper and markers.

Decorative goodie bags

What’s Valentine’s Day without sweets and treats? The kids will love making decorative goodie bags to give to their friends and teachers. This easy craft will require the following:

  • White or brown paper bags

  • Markers, crayons, and colored pencils

  • Construction paper

  • Stickers

  • Scissors

  • Glue

Using construction paper and stickers, allow your child to decorate their goodie bag. Take the construction paper and help them cut out hearts of various sizes and colors. Glue these to the paper bag. Use markers or crayons to write cute phrases like “I’m yours” and “Will you be my Valentine?” Finish the goodie bag off with some cute stickers, and drop your goodies in!
